About IMechE
 
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) was founded by George Stephenson of Liverpool and Manchester Railway for more than 150 years ago.  Since then, it has grown to an international institution with about 80,000 engineering members worldwide and the scope of the Institution covers the entire range of technologies and industries in which engineers work. The Institution is the qualifying body for mechanical engineers in the United Kingdom.  IMechE also provides a member support network throughout the world.

IMechE Hong Kong Branch

The IMechE Hong Kong Branch is the largest overseas branch with about 2,300 members.  The Hong Kong Branch conducts professional interviews for Hong Kong candidates who aspire to be Corporate Members of IMechE.  The Branch committee also organises various learned society activities such as lectures, technical talks and site visits for local members, and keeps a close liaison with other branches in the Asia Pacific Region.  The Branch works closely with other engineering institutions in Hong Kong to promote the engineering profession and make contributions to the betterment of the local society.

IMechE HK Young Member Section

The HK Branch has a well-developed Young Member Section (YMS) consists of a team of energetic and active young mechanical engineers. She keeps close contact with currently 3 student chapters within the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology respectively. YMS supports a variety of site visits, seminars, workshops, competitions and trainings of HK Branch for members throughout the year, in addition to regular social gatherings to strengthen fellowship.  The YMS aims at cultivating Young Members’ interest in becoming a professional mechanical engineer and Corporate Members of IMechE, and promote engineering excellence among young engineers throughout the industry.
